Volvo Cars is the first car maker to sign such a supply agreement.<\/strong><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"SV\">The agreement extends a long-term collaboration between the two companies, positioning them to be at the forefront of the transition to more sustainable steel.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">In addition to buying recycled and near-zero-emission steel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubairoute.com\/article\/volvo-v60-makes-an-exciting-new-addition-to-the-dubai-limousine-market\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Volvo Cars<\/a> progresses towards its circular ambitions by selling scrap steel. This helps Volvo Cars keep materials at the highest value for the longest period in a closed-loop system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The recycled steel will be used in selected components of the forthcoming, fully electric <a href=\"https:\/\/autoscommunity.com\/2024\/09\/15\/all-future-electric-volvo-cars-will-originate-from-one-single-technology-stack\/\">EX60 SUV<\/a> and other cars based on Volvo Cars\u2019 next-generation SPA3 car architecture. Crucially, this recycled steel meets the exact safety-related requirements as <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">primary steel in strength and durability.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">SSAB\u2019s closed-loop system recycles scrap steel, significantly reducing CO\u2082 emissions and keeping materials and natural resources in use for longer. Compared with traditionally produced steel in Europe, SSAB\u2019s recycled steel generates almost 100 per cent less <a href=\"https:\/\/autoscommunity.com\/2024\/11\/15\/exploring-the-automotive-future-autonomy-and-eliminating-emissions\/\">CO\u2082 emissions<\/a> in its operations and is made with a nearly 100 per cent recycled content<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Volvo Cars is committed to a fully electric future and aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. By 2030, the aim is to reduce <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/autoscommunity.com\/2019\/09\/25\/audi-aims-to-reduce-vehicle-specific-carbon-dioxide-emissions-by-30-by-2025\/\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">CO\u2082<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><a href=\"https:\/\/autoscommunity.com\/2019\/09\/25\/audi-aims-to-reduce-vehicle-specific-carbon-dioxide-emissions-by-30-by-2025\/\"> emissions<\/a> per car by 65-75 per cent compared to a 2018 baseline by continuously reducing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/autoscommunity.com\/2021\/08\/12\/rise-in-second-hand-vehicles-causing-9-8-more-co2-emissions-new-study-says\/\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">CO\u2082<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><a href=\"https:\/\/autoscommunity.com\/2021\/08\/12\/rise-in-second-hand-vehicles-causing-9-8-more-co2-emissions-new-study-says\/\"> emissions<\/a> across the value chain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The agreement with SSAB is an example of this.
