They\u00a0say motorists should have mandatory safety equipment, including reflective jackets and warning triangles.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are currently no legal obligations for UK drivers to carry safety equipment in their vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>The latest report on\u00a0road collisions in Great Britain estimates 29,795 people were killed or seriously injured in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Motoring experts demand that better road safety measures be introduced on <a href=\"https:\/\/autoscommunity.com\/2023\/09\/30\/more-than-8-in-10-drivers-break-speed-limit-of-20mph-roads\/\">Britain&#8217;s roads<\/a>. They say safety equipment could make a big difference in keeping motorists and pedestrians safe.<\/p>\n<p>If the equipment became mandatory in the UK, drivers would be required to carry a first aid kit, reflective jackets, warning triangles, and a fire extinguisher.<\/p>\n<p>Carrying safety equipment in a vehicle is legally enforced in many <a href=\"https:\/\/autoscommunity.com\/2023\/07\/07\/hiphi-reveals-european-pricing-for-hiphi-x-and-hiphi-z-with-first-hiphi-hub-to-open-at-munich-airport-soon\/\">European<\/a> countries, although rules vary. However, many other countries stipulate drivers should carry at least some safety items.<\/p>\n<p>By law in most Nordic, Eastern European, Baltic and Soviet countries, a car first aid kit and a fire extinguisher are required.<\/p>\n<p>Most European countries, including Spain, Italy and France, also require vehicles to be equipped with an emergency triangle in case of accidents or breakdowns.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/autoscommunity.com\/2024\/05\/07\/motorists-are-unaware-their-no-claims-discount-is-invalid\/\">Motorists<\/a> in these countries who fail to have any or all of the equipment in their cars are at risk of receiving a fine from authorities.<\/p>\n<p>In the event of an accident, the safety equipment present in a vehicle could\u00a0help people treat casualties with injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Alcock from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/leasecar.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/leasecar.uk\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1717614284964000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0w8mNG2aXHY1c3p75_JGTt\">LeaseCar.uk<\/a>\u00a0said: \u201cWe believe\u00a0drivers across <a href=\"https:\/\/autoscommunity.com\/2023\/09\/28\/new-anti-braking-speed-cameras-could-come-to-the-uk\/\">the UK<\/a> should carry compulsory safety equipment in their vehicles to help prevent serious injuries on the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are legal requirements in most European countries to carry safety equipment in a vehicle, but it is unheard of in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough the legally mandatory vehicle safety equipment varies globally,\u00a0 many countries stipulate drivers should carry at least some items.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreece, Romania and Croatia are just some countries which require drivers to carry a compulsory first aid kit in the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwitzerland, Austria and France also require drivers to carry one or more\u00a0warning triangles in vehicles to\u00a0alert other drivers to potential hazards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReflective jackets are also compulsory for the driver and passengers in case of a breakdown in many countries, including Hungary, Estonia and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubairoute.com\/article\/uae-nationals-and-residents-can-now-travel-to-19-countries-quarantine-free\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompulsory fire extinguishers are needed in the cars of many European countries like Poland, <a href=\"https:\/\/3sri.net\/2022\/04\/27\/%d9%81%d9%86%d8%a7%d8%af%d9%82-%d8%a3%d8%b3%d9%83%d9%88%d8%aa-%d9%81%d9%8a-%d8%a7%d9%84%d8%b4%d8%b1%d9%82-%d8%a7%d9%84%d8%a3%d9%88%d8%b3%d8%b7-%d9%88%d8%aa%d8%b1%d9%83%d9%8a%d8%a7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Turkey<\/a> and Bulgaria, but in the UK, they are only required in PSVs (Public Service Vehicles) and large trucks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe strongly believe making safety kits and equipment a legal requirement for drivers could improve the safety of Britain&#8217;s roads.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re urging the government to consider making safety equipment mandatory when travelling in a vehicle.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Motoring experts are calling for the government to make vehicle safety equipment a legal requirement for all drivers.
