MG will unveil a new, high-legged electric car in the coming months – and sales of the five-door model in the UK are already under discussion, according to sources at its parent company SAIC.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new hatchback, shown in prototype form in a series of photos uploaded to Chinese social media channels<\/a> over the weekend, is expected to join a three-strong line-up of electric <\/a>MG models in the UK, along with the recently revamped ZS EV and 5 EV<\/a>. The new MG Marvel-R is confirmed for a European launch later this year but has not yet received a sale in the UK.<\/p>\n

Although the project is still shrouded in mystery, Autos Community<\/a> has learned that MG plans to unveil the new model as a concept at the Beijing Motor Show<\/a> in April, before revealing the final production model in the second half of the year.<\/p>\n

UK deliveries of the new right-hand-drive hatchback, which will compete with the Opel Corsa-e<\/a> and Mini Electric, are scheduled for 2023. According to Chinese media reports, the new hatchback could replace the second generation of the MG 3, produced at the Chinese plant in Nanjing ( MG) since 2011 and is available with both electric and combustion drive.<\/p>\n

Styling details that identify the prototype as MG include the central part of the hatchback’s distinctive front bumper, which is shaped similarly to the Chinese carmaker<\/a>‘s latest Cyberster roadster concept.<\/p>\n

The new model also features a distinctive shoulder line reminiscent of the ZS. Other details are obscured by the camouflage film that covers the body. However, the pictures below show the battery and reveal that the early test car has an independent rear suspension.<\/p>\n

The new MG is described as shorter than the ZS<\/a>, which has a length of 4314 mm.<\/p>\n
