UAE Survey Reveals Shift in Car Buying Preferences: Leasing Gains Ground Among High-Income Residents

A recent survey by Audi Abu Dhabi and Al Ain reveals a growing inclination towards leasing options, with 85% of respondents familiar with leasing as a form of vehicle ownership. This trend was particularly pronounced among higher-income demographics earning above AED 40,000 per month (97%), with nearly 4 in 10 preferring leasing to meet their short-term needs.

Respondents inclined towards leasing highlight various factors influencing their decision: 16% opted for leasing due to their short-term usage requirements, 20% favour leasing for financial flexibility while exploring high-end EVs and luxury vehicles, and 21% prefer leasing to avoid high down payments and enjoy fixed monthly payments, eliminating concerns about fluctuating interest rates.

Despite the interest in leasing, 57% of respondents still prefer car ownership, citing long-term ownership benefits and the ability to sell the car later, with 25% of respondents believing they will be able to sell the car for a reasonable price, making buying a more attractive option for them.

Scott Shears, General Manager of Audi Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, commented: “As the automotive industry evolves, so do car buyers’ preferences. Leasing is an excellent way for customers to experience the latest automotive technology without the high upfront costs and long-term commitments associated with ownership.

As reflected in our survey, the high-income demographic represents a key audience for leasing programmes premium brands offer. Our leasing plans are designed to provide flexibility and convenience, ensuring that more people can enjoy the benefits of driving a premium Audi.“

To cater to this growing interest, Audi Abu Dhabi and Al Ain has introduced attractive leasing offers on a range of models, including two of their premium electric vehicles, the Audi Q8 e-tron and e-tron GT models, as well as the Audi A5 and Audi Q5.

The Audi Q8 e-tron is available on a 36-month leasing plan at AED 5,799 per month, which includes service and maintenance, insurance and registration, and a free home charger with installation. The Audi e-tron GT can be leased on a 24-month plan at AED 7,850 monthly, with the same benefits. The Audi A5 starts from just AED 3,600 per month, and the Audi Q5 from AED 3,650 per month.
